Depression Linked to Hormonal Contraceptives

Dear mates,

I have chosen this article because since the introduction of contraceptive pills, their use has increased a lot, especially in younger ages. It was considered a revolution because it allowed to separate the concepts of sexuality and procreation and gave the couples the freedom to decide how many children they wanted to have and at which moment of their life.

However, birth control pills have several side effects, which are given less importance than they should. You have at your disposal the following article "Depression Linked to Hormonal Contraceptives", which was published in Medscape by Megan Brooks, on September 29, 2016.  Have a look at it to know more about the vulnerability to depression in women who use contraceptive pills:  http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/869464

In my opinion, the use of this type of contraceptive method is very widespread and I believe that most women are not well informed about their side effects such as breast pain, headache, changes in sexual desire, mood changes, nausea, vaginal bleeding, weight gain and increased cardiovascular risk.

What do you think about these pills? Do you think that the benefits obtained by using them are greater than the damages? Do you think women are well informed about their risks?

Do not forget that the pills do not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, which are increasing in Spain among young people due to the decline in condom use. Do you think that doctors should try to increase the use of condoms instead of pills?
